Course Manual
Q: Do I need to purchase a Yin Yoga book?
A: There are three Yin Yoga books that I am familiar with: The Complete Guide to Yin Yoga by Bernie Clark, Insight Yoga by Sarah Powers, and Yin Yoga by Paul Grilley.
Typically I have used the Bernie Clark book because it has the most information on postures and I will refer to it during our November 13/14 weekend.
However, what will become clear when you look at any of these books is that prop support is virtually non-existent in them. Without props, Yin Yoga is insufficiently supportive for the average person.
During the weekend, we will explore prop setups in various postures and I encourage everyone to take pictures of setups for future reference.
Q: Do I need to purchase yoga props?
Our weekend will explore how to prop postures across the mobility spectrum. You will need blankets, yoga blocks, a strap, and yoga bolsters or pillows. If you have a folding yoga chair, that could be helpful, but is not necessary. I will bring one for exploration.
A pillow off your bed is a terrific prop, but it’s very different in size, texture and density than a yoga bolster. A cylindrical yoga bolster is very different than a rectangular one. What matters is that we learn how to respond to the bodies in front of us!
Welcome and Training Pathway
Hello and welcome to your Yin and Mellow Yoga Teacher Training!
We are making use of a variety of platforms, which can be confusing! Please watch the video course introduction to get yourself situated. While there are a few components to completing all the material, we are very flexible on the completion of the components so you enjoy them and understand the material. You are encouraged to set commitments for when you will watch recordings to digest the information in a timely manner.
To complete the course, you need to…
Attend the live Zoom yoga classes on Wednesday evenings - October 20 and 27, November 3 and 10, OR do the classes after the livestream
Watch the weekly course videos (OR listen to them as audio lectures) and do any corresponding worksheets (if there is one for that video)
Attend the live in-person weekend on Saturday November 13 and Sunday November 14 from 12:30 - 6 PM (hosted at Union108 at 108 John St in Arnprior, ON) OR participate via Zoom OR watch the weekend recording
Hand in your homework. You do not need to hand in the worksheets, but there is one assignment at the end of the manual that you need to submit to receive your certificate.
Voila! Your effort over this course results in a certificate and the equivalent of a 4 day or 32 hour training.
