Q: Do I need to purchase a Yin Yoga book?
A: There are three Yin Yoga books that I am familiar with: The Complete Guide to Yin Yoga by Bernie Clark, Insight Yoga by Sarah Powers, and Yin Yoga by Paul Grilley.
Typically I have used the Bernie Clark book because it has the most information on postures and I will refer to it during our November 13/14 weekend.
However, what will become clear when you look at any of these books is that prop support is virtually non-existent in them. Without props, Yin Yoga is insufficiently supportive for the average person.
During the weekend, we will explore prop setups in various postures and I encourage everyone to take pictures of setups for future reference.
Q: Do I need to purchase yoga props?
Our weekend will explore how to prop postures across the mobility spectrum. You will need blankets, yoga blocks, a strap, and yoga bolsters or pillows. If you have a folding yoga chair, that could be helpful, but is not necessary. I will bring one for exploration.
A pillow off your bed is a terrific prop, but it’s very different in size, texture and density than a yoga bolster. A cylindrical yoga bolster is very different than a rectangular one. What matters is that we learn how to respond to the bodies in front of us!
